Marriage & Couple Counselling in Dhaka

Rebuild Your Relationship With Couple Counselling in Dhaka
Couple counselling, also called marriage counselling or couples therapy, is a structured conversation between you, your partner and a certified psychologist who stays neutral and helps you break the pattern you keep getting stuck in: the same fight, long silences, broken trust, in-law pressure or growing distance. At Chum Wellness you can start online from anywhere in Bangladesh or in person in Dhaka, in Bangla or English. A couple session runs 1.5 hours and costs from ৳2,500 to ৳7,500 depending on the psychologist, and you can start on your own if your partner is not ready yet.
The World Health Organization identifies relationships and social connection as key determinants of mental health, so working through relationship distress supports your wellbeing, not only your marriage.
- Couple counselling helps with repeated fights, trust and infidelity, in-law and joint-family pressure, intimacy and emotional distance.
- A neutral psychologist works on the pattern between you, not on deciding who is right. You can come together or start alone.
- Chum Wellness offers confidential couple counselling online across Bangladesh and in person in Dhaka, from ৳2,500 per couple session.
At some point in your relationship, you might hear your partner say:
– “I regret being with you!”
– “It’s not working anymore!”
Or even he/she might say: – “You’re ruining my life!”
What was your response to those statements? Some angry words, or a look that is bursting with pain, nah?
“Calm down! Just as the most beautiful rose eventually fades, not every day of the week is meant to be worry-free and romantic.”
If remarks like these have become part of ordinary evenings, it may be time to talk to a marriage counselor. Hard phases are normal in any long relationship. What helps is noticing when the same hurt keeps repeating, and getting support before resentment settles in. Seeking help early is a strength, not a failure.
Couple counselling in Dhaka, which people also search for as marriage counselling, couples therapy or relationship counselling, is a talking therapy for two people. A trained couples therapist helps you both say difficult things safely, listen without defending, and agree on small, practical changes. Many couples come at the first signs of a communication breakdown; others come after years of distance. Either way, it is not too late to ask.

What couples counselling helps you work on
- Building intimacy.
- Increasing mutual understanding (to understand each other’s perspectives).
- Improving communication.
- Addressing relationship challenges.
- Resolving conflicts (to resolve conflicts).
- Enhancing relationship satisfaction.
A trained couples therapist helps you work through these together, using structured methods rather than advice. The focus is the pattern between you, not deciding who is right.
Couple counselling in Dhaka is available at Chum Wellness with certified psychologists, online or in person, from BDT 2,500 per session. You can come together, or start on your own if your partner is not ready yet. Sessions are confidential and you choose your own therapist.
Most couples arrive after months of the same argument. The work is learning to say the hard thing without it turning into a fight, and to hear it without shutting down. Some couples rebuild from there. Others use the space to separate with less damage. Both are legitimate outcomes, and your therapist will not push you toward either.
Common Relationship Challenges We Help With
Many relationship problems look similar on the surface: communication breaking down, trust shaken, too little time together. Underneath, couples in Dhaka often carry extra weight: big decisions shared with parents and in-laws, a joint-family home with little privacy, one partner working abroad, money pressure on a single earner, and the fear of what relatives will say. Good couple counselling takes this context seriously instead of applying a foreign template. The full list of problems we help with, with a guide for each, is further down this page.
Why it works
Couple therapy is one of the better-researched talking therapies. A 2020 meta-analysis of 58 studies covering more than 2,000 couples found that couple therapy had a large effect on relationship satisfaction and also improved communication and emotional intimacy, while couples left on a waiting list did not improve on their own. The gains were generally maintained at follow-up (Roddy et al., 2020).
It matters beyond the relationship too. A review of 126 studies with more than 72,000 people linked better marital quality with better physical health, including a lower risk of death (Robles et al., 2014). In practice, a couples therapist in Dhaka helps you slow conversations down, listen to understand rather than to win, and rebuild trust through small, consistent actions instead of big promises.
Choosing the right counsellor for you two
Fit matters more in couple counselling than almost anywhere else, because both of you need to trust the person in the room. Our longer guide on how to choose a couples counsellor in Dhaka goes deeper. In short, look at:
Qualifications and Experience
Seek a certified couple counselor with specific training in couples therapy. Check credentials. Consider different counsellors who specialize based on specific needs.
Approach and Specialization
Align therapeutic approach (EFT, Gottman Method, CBT) with your needs. Seek a counselor specializing in couples for understanding relationship dynamics. This ensures a solution for couples.
Compatibility and Support
You should both feel comfortable and safe. The first session is a good test: does the counsellor give each of you equal time, and do you leave with something useful? If not, it is fine to switch. Because Chum offers both in-person and online sessions, you can choose the counsellor who fits rather than the one who is closest.
Availability and Accessibility
Match counselor’s schedule and location. Check for in-person sessions, online counseling, or both (in-person and online). Chum Wellness offers both for Couple Counselling in Dhaka or bangladesh! Online counselling is vital for mental health care and busy schedules, providing professional services in dhaka for emotional and relational well-being.
Seeking Recommendations and Reviews
Recommendations from people you trust and genuine reviews help. Look for a counselling psychologist who uses evidence-based couples methods and can explain them to you in plain language.
Every counsellor at Chum Wellness is a qualified psychologist. The cards above show each one’s credentials, specialties and fee before you book.
What a session actually looks like
The first session is mostly listening. Your counsellor asks each of you what brought you here, what you have already tried and what you want to change. Some counsellors also see each partner alone once, so each of you can speak freely. Couple sessions last 1.5 hours, often weekly or every two weeks at first. Some couples feel a difference within a few sessions; deeper problems such as an affair or years of distance usually take a few months.
Step by Step Counselling Process
- Initial Contact/Assessment: Couples contact therapist in Dhaka for assessment.
- Goal Setting: Collaborative goal identification.
- Individual Sessions: Private sessions for individual perspectives.
- Joint Sessions: Therapist facilitates dialogue in a safe space for conflict resolution.
- Communication Techniques: Active listening, “I” statements, empathy training.
- Conflict Resolution: Identify root causes, develop constructive strategies.
- Skill Building: Problem-solving, strengthening your relationship and intimacy.
- Homework/Practice: Apply skills in real life.
- Progress Evaluation: Review progress, adjust strategies.
- Closure/Follow-up: Discuss future strategies, offer follow-ups.
Methods are chosen to fit the problem, for example emotionally focused couple therapy, the Gottman approach or cognitive-behavioural couple therapy. You do not need to know these names; your counsellor will explain what they are doing and why.
How much does couple counselling cost in Dhaka?
At Chum Wellness a couple session costs from ৳2,500 to ৳7,500, depending on the psychologist’s seniority and experience. Couple sessions run longer than individual ones, so they cost a little more. Every counsellor’s exact fee is shown on their card above and on our pricing page, so you know the cost before you book.
Online couple counselling
You do not have to sit in a Dhaka chamber to get help. Online couple counselling works over a secure video call, with both of you on one screen or each joining from a different place. It suits couples outside Dhaka, partners working abroad and anyone who wants extra privacy. Read how it works in our guide to online couple counselling in Bangladesh, or, if one of you lives abroad, counselling for marriages across distance.
What if my partner will not come?
This is one of the most common worries, and it does not have to stop you. You can start on your own. Individual sessions help you understand your side of the pattern, steady yourself and get clear on what you want, and often the other partner joins later once they see it is not a courtroom. Our article on how to ask your spouse to try couples counselling has practical ways to raise it, and you can book an individual session in the meantime.
Marriage counselling vs couple counselling: is there a difference?
In practice, no. “Marriage counselling” is what most people in Bangladesh search for, while “couple counselling” or “couples therapy” also covers engaged and unmarried couples. The method is the same. Engaged couples sometimes come before the wedding for premarital counselling, couples who want their faith respected can read about Muslim couple counselling, and when parents, in-laws or children are part of the problem, family therapy may fit better.
When couple counselling is not the right first step
If there is violence, threats or fear in your home, joint couple sessions are not safe or appropriate while the abuse is going on, because speaking honestly in front of an abusive partner can raise the risk. Start with confidential individual support instead. In immediate danger call 999; for violence against women and children, the national helpline is 109. Worldwide, about 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime (WHO), so you are not alone and it is not your fault.
Your Privacy and Confidentiality
Confidentiality is crucial when seeking help for relationship issues. Counselors in Dhaka prioritize this for couple counseling services so couples feel secure. Chum Wellness protects your privacy. A marriage counselor often uses a systematic approach, focusing on shared goals to help them develop strategies.
Problems we help couples with
These are the problems couples in Dhaka and across Bangladesh bring to us most often. Each link opens a longer guide you can read together before or between sessions.

Support that fits Bangladeshi families
Cultural values impact Dhaka couples. Effective counseling understands these dynamics, creating a safe space for couples to discuss differences. Chum Wellness has Native Bangladeshi Psychologists (psychologist in dhaka) for culturally sensitive counselling in dhaka.
When relationship stress needs medical support
Sometimes relationship strain overlaps with depression, anxiety, panic or sleep problems. Chum also has three BMDC-registered psychiatrists, medical doctors who can assess and, when needed, prescribe, alongside your couple counselling.

Dr. Srijony Ahmed

Dr. Susmita Sarkar

Dr. Afsana Benta Anowar
All three are registered with the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC). Sessions available online across Bangladesh or in person in Dhaka.
Frequently asked questions
Is couple counselling only for couples close to divorce?
No. Many couples come early, when arguments start repeating or they feel distant, and that is when change is easiest. Engaged couples come before the wedding too. You do not need a crisis to ask for help.
How many sessions of couple counselling will we need?
It depends on the problem. Some couples need only a handful of sessions to get unstuck, while an affair or years of distance usually takes a few months of regular work. Your counsellor reviews progress with you along the way.
Can we do couple counselling online?
Yes. Sessions run over a secure video call, so you can join together from home or from two different places, including from abroad. Many couples find online sessions easier to fit around work and family.
Will the counsellor take one partner’s side?
No. A couples counsellor stays neutral. The focus is the pattern between you, not deciding who is right, and both of you get equal time to speak.
Is what we say in couple counselling kept confidential?
Yes. Nothing you share is passed on to family, in-laws or anyone else. The only exception is a serious risk to someone’s safety. Read more in is therapy confidential.
Can couple counselling help after an affair?
Often, yes. Many couples rebuild after infidelity when the affair has ended and both are willing to do the work. Counselling also helps if you decide to separate, so that the decision is clear and does less damage.
