About
Shaheen Nafisa Siddique is a Senior Clinical Psychologist with more than 29 years of experience, and one of Bangladesh’s most experienced practitioners in violence against women and trauma recovery. She holds an M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology (1997) and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology (1995), both from the University of Dhaka.
Her work with domestic and intimate partner violence runs deep and unusually wide. She spent four years as a senior research officer at Naripokkho on research to prevent violence against women, including studying the perceptions of perpetrators in Bangladeshi jails, and later worked as a senior psychologist on action research delivering mental health intervention for perpetrators. That combination, working with survivors and with the people who cause harm, is rare and it shapes how she helps clients understand the patterns they are caught in.
Alongside that, she has provided therapy in private practice for 27 years to women and children, and has given continuous support to women’s activist groups on mental health care for women and girls. She has worked as a consultant therapist for IOM since 2011, running group therapy for Andaman returnees and for female survivors of human trafficking with IOM and Plan International, and with Save the Children International supporting children at the Daulatdia safe home. From 2019 to 2022 she was Head of Mental Health at the Institute of Education and Development (IED), BRAC.
Nafisa works with survivors of long-term abusive relationships, sexual abuse and exploitation, and with children and families, using CBT and trauma-informed care alongside play therapy and psychodrama. She has taught in UN summer schools and presented at international conferences in Geneva, Vietnam, Japan and China. Sessions are in Bangla or English, online across Bangladesh or in person in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, and everything you share stays confidential.
