How we assess risk and keep every client safe.
Client safety is the first duty of every therapist at Chum Wellness. This page explains how we assess and respond to risk, protect children and vulnerable clients, and make sure you reach the right level of care.
We are not an emergency service
Chum Wellness provides scheduled counselling and does not offer immediate crisis response. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call the national emergency number 999 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department right away.
Risk assessment and safety planning
Therapists are trained to recognise signs of risk, including thoughts of self-harm or suicide. Where risk is identified, your therapist will talk with you, agree a safety plan, and, where appropriate, involve emergency services or a trusted contact to keep you safe.
When we refer you on
Our therapists are qualified to support a wide range of concerns. Where your situation needs specialised or medical care, we will refer you to a more suitable professional in Bangladesh. This includes:
- Severe symptoms such as suicidal intent, psychosis or hallucinations
- Conditions that need psychiatric assessment or medication
- Situations that require a medical doctor or hospital care
Protecting children and vulnerable clients
For clients under 18, counselling proceeds with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Where a child or vulnerable adult may be at risk of harm, we act to protect them, in line with our duty of care and applicable Bangladeshi law, and involve the appropriate people or authorities when needed.
Keeping sessions safe
Every session is a respectful, non-judgemental space. In couples or family work, your therapist will step in if a session becomes unsafe through verbal or physical aggression, and may pause or end the session and suggest alternative support.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you share stays confidential, with narrow exceptions where there is a serious risk of harm, a child or vulnerable person is at risk, or disclosure is required by law. See our Confidentiality and Client Consent pages for full detail.
