Tarun Kanti Gayen is one of Bangladesh’s most experienced clinical psychologists, with over 20 years of practice. He began his career as a drug counsellor after completing his Master’s in Psychology at the University of Dhaka, and went on to earn his MS and M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (2010) from the same university. Today he is an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Clinical Psychology at the University of Dhaka and acting General Secretary of the Bangladesh Clinical Psychology Society. A founding member of the drug rehabilitation centre CREA, he serves as its Chairperson and Chief Executive, a role he has held since the organisation began in 1999, and has consulted for the WHO, IOM, UNDP, and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on mental health programmes, including the Rohingya refugee response. He is also a regular mental-health expert for The Business Standard, answering readers’ questions on relationships and emotional wellbeing. His clinical practice covers addiction, psychosexual dysfunction, borderline personality disorder, and family therapy.
