World Mental Health Day 2026: Theme & Ideas for Workplaces in Bangladesh

World Mental Health Day 2026 is on Saturday, 10 October. This year’s official theme from the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) is “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”. It asks us to listen to people who have lived through mental health problems, and to let what they say shape how services, families and workplaces respond.

In Bangladesh, most people who struggle never say it out loud at work. Fear of being judged, of losing a promotion, or of being seen as “weak” keeps them quiet. So this year’s theme fits Bangladeshi workplaces closely: the change starts when people feel safe enough to speak, and someone is ready to listen.

What the 2026 theme means

“Lived experience” means first-hand experience: someone who has had depression, anxiety, burnout or a crisis, or who has cared for someone who has. The theme makes three points:

World Mental Health Day ideas for your office in Bangladesh

You don’t need a big budget. What matters is that the day is safe, voluntary and followed by something that lasts.

  1. Run a 60 to 90 minute workshop with a licensed psychologist on stress, burnout and how to support a colleague. Hold it in Bangla if most of your team is more comfortable in Bangla.
  2. A leader goes first. A short, honest message from the CEO or a senior manager about a hard time they went through does more than any campaign.
  3. Train managers to notice and respond. Managers are usually the first to see changes in a team member. A short Mental Health First Aid session gives them the words to use.
  4. Share where to get help. Put one clear contact on the notice board and in the group chat: an EAP number, a counselling service, and 999 for emergencies.
  5. Collect anonymous feedback. A two-minute anonymous survey tells you what pressure your people are actually under. That’s the “voices heard” part of this year’s theme.
  6. Have a quiet hour with no meetings. A small signal that rest is allowed.
  7. Make it last beyond one day. Choose one follow-up, such as monthly check-ins, confidential counselling or an Employee Assistance Programme, so the day isn’t just a photo opportunity.
