You do not need to book an appointment, or tell anyone, to get a first read on how you are doing. In Bangladesh you can now take a free, confidential mental health self-check online in a few minutes, in Bangla or English, and get an instant result. This guide walks through where you can take one, what the different tests actually measure, and what to do with your result.

Short on time? You can take a free mental health self-check on Chum Wellness right now, eleven validated screeners covering anxiety, depression, stress, sleep and more, with your result on the same screen.

What a mental health self-check actually is

A self-check, or self-assessment, is a short set of questions based on a clinically validated screening tool. These are the same questionnaires psychologists use around the world:

  • GAD-7, for anxiety and worry
  • PHQ-9, for depression and low mood
  • PSS, for stress
  • WHO-5, for overall wellbeing
  • ISI, for sleep

One thing to be clear about from the start: a self-check is a screening, not a diagnosis. It tells you whether your symptoms are in a range worth paying attention to, and points you toward the right next step. Only a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist can diagnose a condition.

Where to take a free mental health self-check in Bangladesh

Several Bangladeshi platforms now offer free online self-assessments. Here are the main ones, and what each is good for.

Chum Wellness, the most complete self-check

Chum Wellness’s free self-check is the broadest available in Bangladesh, with eleven validated instruments in one place: anxiety (GAD-7), depression (PHQ-9), stress (PSS-4), wellbeing (WHO-5), sleep (ISI), trauma (PC-PTSD-5), OCD (OCI-R), physical symptoms (PHQ-15), alcohol (CAGE), self-esteem (RSES) and loneliness (UCLA-3). Each one is free, gives an instant result on the same screen, and works in Bangla or English. If your result suggests you could use support, it connects you straight to a licensed psychologist, so the check and the help live in the same place.

Mindspace Bangladesh

Mindspace offers free self-assessment tests covering anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD and stress. A useful, well-known option with a clean set of screeners.

Moner Bondhu

Moner Bondhu, active since 2016, offers mental-health tests in Bangla including a stress check, alongside counselling and a crisis helpline.

LifeSpring

LifeSpring provides a free depression, anxiety and stress test based on the DASS scale, with an e-report.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

NIMH is the government mental-health institute. It is a specialist referral point rather than a quick online self-check, but worth knowing as the public option.

Which self-check should you take?

If you are not sure where to start, pick by what you have been feeling:

  • Low mood, no energy, losing interest, take the depression check (PHQ-9). See also depression counselling.
  • Constant worry, racing thoughts, panic, take the anxiety check (GAD-7).
  • Overwhelmed, stretched thin, take the stress check (PSS).
  • Trouble sleeping, take the sleep check (ISI).
  • Just want an overall read, take the wellbeing check (WHO-5).

On Chum you can take any of these, or several, in one sitting.

What to do with your result

Your score is a starting point, not a verdict. If it lands in the mild range, self-care, better sleep, exercise, talking to someone you trust, and a re-check in a couple of weeks is often enough. If it lands in the moderate to severe range, or if it has been going on for a while, that is a clear sign to speak to a licensed psychologist. You do not need to wait for things to get worse first.

This is where Chum is a little different: the moment your result suggests support would help, you can book a session with a licensed psychologist, online anywhere in Bangladesh or in person in Dhaka, in Bangla or English, with fees shown openly before you book.

If you need urgent help

A self-check is not for emergencies. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or thinking about self-harm, call 999 now, or go to your nearest emergency department. Please do not wait for a test result.

Frequently asked questions

Is an online mental health self-check free?

Yes. The self-checks listed here, including Chum’s, are free to take, with no sign-up required to see your result.

Is it confidential?

Yes. A self-check is private, you take it on your own device and nobody is told. Chum does not require your identity to show your result.

Are these tests accurate?

They use clinically validated screening tools (GAD-7, PHQ-9, PSS, WHO-5 and others) that are widely used by professionals. They reliably flag whether your symptoms are worth attention, but they do not replace a full assessment by a qualified clinician.

Can I take a mental health test in Bangla?

Yes. Chum, Mindspace and Moner Bondhu all offer tests in Bangla. On Chum you can switch between Bangla and English.

What should I do if my score is high?

Treat it as a nudge, not a diagnosis. Speak to a licensed psychologist, who can properly assess what is going on and work through it with you. You can book a session with Chum Wellness and start when you are ready.
